n July 2, 2009, the second anniversary of Sills' death, four dedicated Sills fans from California gathered from 1 pm to 3 pm at the Sills star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Joining Edward Specht from Cambria this year were Freeman Stamper from Hayward, Nancy Guy from San Diego and Kenny Morse (a cousin of Beverly Sills) from Los Angeles. The star was cleaned with brass polish, then decorated with flowers, a candle and photos. Selected Sills recordings were played during the vigil. Several fans phoned the group during the vigil, including one international call by Pete Buchanan from his home in Colchester, England.Various people stopped to find out more about Sills and one surprised person turned out to be an old family friend. Thanks are due to all four fans for taking time to make sure Sills was honored properly.
